Special Ministries

Silent Friends

The Silent Friends are participants of our church who communicate with sign language. Deafness does not deter a person from growing in his or her Christian faith. Our church provides a Sunday School class at 9:45 a.m. each Sunday morning, and an interpreter in the 11:00 a.m. worship service. For more information please Email Jane Laughman at the church office.

THEOS

Our church has a special ministry to those who have lost their spouse by death, through a support group called THEOS (They Help Each Other Spiritually). They meet on the 4th Tuesday, monthly at 7:30 p.m. The goals of this ministry are to help persons accept the death of their spouse, cope with their grief, and begin to rebuild their life with God’s help. Our Pastor Emeritus, Rev. Howard Cates, serves as chaplain for THEOS. Our church provides a meeting place, prints the bi-monthly newsletter and gives financial support. This is a ministry to the community because it reaches those from other churches in the city and surrounding counties. For more information please Email the church office.

Extension

Those FBC members and friends who are no longer able physically able to attend church services are cared for through the Extension Ministry. These individuals receive visits, cards, and a remembrance at Christmas and other special times. Church deacons serve Communion and several women's mission groups provide devotions at local nursing homes on a regular basis. For more information please Email the church office.

Transportation

Through the use of church vehicles, transportation to Sunday morning worship services and Sunday School is made available for those in various areas who do not have transportation of their own. Transportation is also provided to special church activities that occur away from the church. For information about routes, scheduling, and availability, please Email the church office.

Interfaith/Salvation Army

In order to effectively assist those in need, FBC partners with Interfaith to provide clothing for children each fall at the opening of school and with the Salvation Army through the Community Awareness Program. This program provides help to those who require financial or other forms of assistance. FBC also supports special programs of the Salvation Army during the Christmas season. For more information please Email the church office.
